Hummingbird robbery suspect shot during arrest
Police have detained a suspect in last weekend’s armed robbery on the Hummingbird Highway and in the process managed to shoot him in the leg. As we reported on Tuesday, three masked men with guns jacked the occupants of a house near Sibun Bridge and escaped with money and jewelry. According to police, their investigations led them to a residence in nearby Armenia Village where they tried to collar a suspect. But they claim that when they approached the man he reached into his waistband, as if to draw a gun, resulting in a police officer firing his single shot. The officer, as is the custom, was not named in the press release, while the suspect, now hospitalized in Belmopan, is identified only as a fifty-five year old Guatemalan. A loaded point thirty-eight revolver was also recovered at the scene.
