John Briceño Speaks on Candidacy for P.U.P. Leader
John Briceño…he’s a candidate for a position he held from 2008 to 2011, Party Leader of the People’s United Party. On January thirty-first, he will face immediate past Party Leader Francis Fonseca and Cordel Hyde at a National Convention. Briceño stepped back in 2011, so the immediate question would be – why get back in? We caught up with the candidate at an event in Ladyville today and asked him.
John Briceño, Candidate for P.U.P. Leader
“I am doing that because I love the P.U.P. and I also love Belize. We have seen the direction that the U.D.P. has been taking this government for the past two governments and we believe that they are going in the wrong direction. Instead of things getting better in this country, it has been going worse and we need a P.U.P. government desperately in this country and I believe that I am the better person to lead the P.U.P. into victory whenever the U.D.P. decides to call the next general elections.”

“Were you surprised at the return of Francis Fonseca, who stepped out on November fifth?”
John Briceño
“Well in politics everything is possible, but yes, I was a bit surprised because he had already indicated that he was going to hold on to the affairs of the party just until a new leader was elected. But I mean, Honourable Francis Fonseca has a right like everybody else. It’s like I’ve always said that any member of this great party should be given an opportunity if they so wish to lead our party.”
