BEL grid goes nationwide
It has been a dream of BEL engineers for years, but as of this week Belize Electricity Limited can finally boast of a truly national electricity grid that stretches from North to South, East to West. The final leg, a sixty-nine kilovolt line connecting Big Falls in Toledo to Independence in the Stann Creek District, has been completed, which will enable the company to decommission its noisy fuel guzzling diesel generators in Punta Gorda. The move will cut BEL’s operating costs and should provide more consistent current to customers in the deep south.
