Men sentenced for scamming supplies from NEMO
Turning to the courts, two persons who pleaded guilty to the charge of Obtaining Property by Deception were today sentenced to eighteen months in prison. Kenton Pandy will be out in a year and a half time but his partner in crime, Robinson Michael, is not so lucky. Michael got an eighteen month sentence which Magistrate Sharon Frazer ruled is to run consecutively to a current four year sentence for previous offences; including possession of a firearm. On June fifth, both eighteen year olds went to the National Emergency Management Organization in Belmopan and offered to donate five containers of food and supplies for relief. They were given the fuel to transport the containers from Port of Belize to NEMO’s warehouse in Ladyville but instead of handing over supplies, the two men obtained a large amount of supplies from the warehouse manager. The supplies ended up at Pandy’s home. It was until when they attempted to repeat the offence that the duo was detained by police. Pandy admitted to the offence and claimed that Michael was the mastermind.
