Fonseca Says His Team is Running a Clean Campaign
And to wrap up Fonseca’s extended interview today, he spoke about the increasingly nasty, personal attacks on social media. It’s been pointed out repeatedly that the attacks are coming from Fonseca’s camp, if not necessarily from Fonseca. He says that’s not the way he does things, and while he cannot control all his supporters, those he can control will keep it clean.
Francis Fonseca, Candidate for P.U.P. Leader
“The only time I go on Facebook is when I post something on Francis Fonseca’s page, so that’s the only page I am responsible for, and I really don’t…I have not seen…the honest truth is I do not read Facebook unless something pops up on my page occasionally. Social media is social media. That’s what it is. It is a free for all. I certainly have made it clear to my campaign team – the people that I have some control over…that as I have always done we conduct ourselves with dignity. These other leaders are our brothers. There is no personal agenda. There is no personal dislike. There is no animosity. So certainly that is my message to anybody who is supporting me. That is the kind of campaign we want. A clean position campaign not directed at any of our opponents. That’s not necessary for us to win. That’s not the way to win. So certainly that would be my comment on that.”

“In terms of 2008 we saw this situation where you stayed back, congratulated Mr. Briceno at the Convention, you shook hands with him…you gave a concession speech. But then we saw Mr. Musa walk out. He was one of your key supporters and I don’t think he ever made peace with Mr. Briceno’s leadership and in fact there was a newspaper one recalls in which hundreds of thousands of dollars were spent to undermine the leadership of Mr. Briceno. Might we see a replay of that where you have acted in a certain way, a conciliatory way, but other functionaries of the old guard have this animosity towards the man who is not their candidate?”
Francis Fonseca
“I think there is no factual basis to your question Jules. I don’t accept at all that Mr. Musa had any animosity towards John Briceño or that he was somehow behind some newspaper.”
