Social Security hearings open Dec 15
The first public hearing on the alleged mismanagement at the Social Security Board will take place on December fifteenth. That’s the word from the Senate Select Committee formed to investigate the SSB. According to the committee’s latest press release, they have completed an on-site inspection of various pieces of land put up as collateral by Glenn Godfrey controlled companies for millions of dollars in loans from Social Security. These properties include parcels at the Boom Road-Northern Highway junction belonging to Data Pro and Aquarius as well as two pieces in the Cahal Pech area in San Ignacio. It is claimed by the Opposition as well as several independent groups that the collateral provided by Godfrey was woefully inadequate to cover his loans and that this alleged special treatment from the Board was due to his political and economic ties with the Government of Prime Minister Said Musa. As a result of its inspection, the committee is asking the Ministry of Natural Resources to provide a valuation of the properties in question.
