A Woman is Killed in Bella Vista, Common-Law Husband is on the Lam

Joseph Myvette

The most recent murder occurred this morning. In the Stann Creek District, a Honduran national was hacked to death shortly before six o’clock.  Independence Police visited Bella Vista Village where they discovered that twenty-four-year-old Maria Suyapa Garcia had been fatally chopped to the head, face, neck and arms.  Their investigation revealed that the woman was in a common-law relationship with another Honduran national.  The couple was reportedly walking through a football field this morning when twenty-one-year-old Erlin Monguia and his live-in girlfriend became embroiled in a heated argument.  Monguia reportedly produced a machete and proceeded to inflict multiple injuries on Garcia.  According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvette, Monguia is actively being sought as the primary suspect.

“In regard to the latest murder which occurred this morning in Bella Vista, police responded sometime around 5:35 a.m. in the area of the football field in Bella Vista Village where they saw the lifeless body of Maria Suyapa Garcia with large chop wounds across the body and head.  Further police investigation into this matter revealed that it seemingly arose out of a domestic dispute and as we currently speak police are seeking her common-law husband who is believed to be the main suspect.”
