San Pedro Cop Acquitted of Extortion Charge
A cop from San Pedro AC walked free today from a single charge of extortion. That’s because a seventeen year old girl who made the allegation against thirty-eight year old police officer Oscar Ramirez, decided not to proceed with the matter in court. In light of that, Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser told Ramirez that he was free to go. The allegation was that on September, 2014, Ramirez extorted six hundred dollars from the teenager. The minor claimed that a Guatemalan woman who was her relative had been detained in respect of a traffic offense and that PC Ramirez told her that to release the woman, she had to pay three hundred dollars. The minor claimed that he made another demand for seven hundred dollars, but all she could muster was six hundred dollars. But while Ramirez is free, a disciplinary hearing is to be held to determine if he will be re-instated into the force.
