What’s Up with Sarstoon F.O.B.?

A historic groundbreaking ceremony was held on the bank of the Sarstoon River on December ninth to mark the beginning of construction of a forward operating base near Belize‘s southern border with Guatemala.  Well, it has been a little over a month since that formality and work is yet to get underway at the location.  While some who frequent the area are skeptical since the project is slow to get off the ground, coast guard brass say the work is being spearheaded by the Belize Defense Force.  According to Commander Borland, a contract has been awarded and things should get going in the Sarstoon very shortly.

Rear Admiral John Borland, Commander, BNCG

“The B.D.F. is the lead agency responsible for the construction of the forward operating base in the Sarstoon area.  As it applies to the coast guard’s involvement, we are partner agencies.  It is going to be a joint services facility when it is stood up and we know that the contract has been awarded for that project.  If work isn’t currently being executed then it should commence shortly and we know that once the project is completed it shall be occupied fully by members of the B.D.F. and of the coast guard, as we have overlapping jurisdictions and responsibility of that area.”
