Accused copkiller turns himself in

The manhunt for accused cop killer Earl Young is officially over and the twenty-four year old suspect is tonight in lockdown at the Queen Street police station. How did it happen? A short while ago News 5’s Patrick Jones got the details from Commissioner of Police Carmen Zetina via telephone from his Belmopan Office.

Carmen Zetina, Commissioner of Police

?Well I?m happy to say that he delivered himself today to a senior police officer. So he is presently in Police custody.?

Patrick Jones

?Where did he turn himself in??

Carmen Zetina

?Well he actually delivered himself to the senior officer?s home, at his residents.?

Patrick Jones

?Was this anticipated??

Carmen Zetina

?Well he was not anticipated. What is anticipating is that he would have been captured at any cost.?

Patrick Jones

?The general consensus or the thought coming from you yesterday was that the suspect was heading north.?

Carmen Zetina

?Well as far as we know he was heading north because he was a part of a different crime that was committed on Saturday in Orange Walk Town.?

Patrick Jones

?What crime was that??

Carmen Zetina

?That was a crime of robbery.?

Patrick Jones

?You have him in custody now. What is he telling you? Why did he kill the officer?

Carmen Zetina

?Well, as far as we are concerned and what he had stated to us. It was a senseless killing of a police officer.?

Patrick Jones

?Where is the suspect right now and what will happen to him now??

Carmen Zetina

?He is currently in police custody in Belize City. We will now go through the entire process of him being charged and being arraigned before a magistrate no later than tomorrow.?

Zetina says that while on the run Young is also believed to have been involved in a robbery in Orange Walk. When he handed himself in, Young was in the company of a friend who apparently convinced him it was the right thing to do.
