U.S. tourist killed in boat mishap
For the second time in less than two weeks a serious boating accident has occurred in Belizean waters; this time it proved fatal. US national Raymond Link was snorkeling off a kayak about a half mile from the split at Caye Caulker when he was run over by a speeding skiff. According to Link’s wife, who remained aboard the kayak, both she and her husband waved to warn the boat but it did not respond. Link was pronounced dead on arrival at the San Pedro Lions Clinic. The vessel’s captain, forty-three year old Walter August, has been charged with manslaughter by negligence and causing death by careless conduct. A similar incident on November seventeenth off San Pedro resulted in a small skiff being sliced in half and one of its occupants severely injured.
