City constable foils rape
Not all the violence involving police officers this weekend resulted in tragedy. On Sunday the actions of one alert constable are believed to have prevented a rape. According to police reports around nine p.m. off duty P.C. Ivan Galvez was riding on Central American Boulevard when he heard the cries of a young woman. Upon approaching the girl he found that the twelve year old was bruised and her blouse torn. Galvez then saw that a man was fleeing the area and managed to chase him down and take him in to the Mahogany Street Police Station. According to the girl, her assailant grabbed her from behind as she walked by the Farmers Market, put a rag in her mouth and dragged her to a secluded area where he began to fondle her. She managed to escape across the Belcan Bridge but the man caught up with her, tearing her blouse in the process. The victim was treated for bruises at the KHMH while the suspect remains detained pending charges.
