Cayo students help out in Toledo
Students of Sacred Heart Junior College in San Ignacio this week delivered school supplies, sports equipment and teaching materials to close to two hundred primary students in rural Toledo. The donation is part of the institution’s school support programme, which was started in 2001, following the devastation of Hurricane Iris. Over the last few months, second year students undertook the project as part of their community service, raising funds and soliciting donations from the local business community to facilitate the trip. On Wednesday of this week, the Cayo students travelled by bus to hand out exercise books, pens, pencils and even three computers to the children attending the Roman Catholic schools in Conejo Creek and Sunday Wood Villages. In return, the boys and girls entertained the visitors with cultural dances and songs.
