NSC Donates 7 Motorcycles

The National Sports Council in past years has been an organization which we know is there, but we’d be hard pressed to say what it’s done for sporting in the country. With the shifting of portfolios post general election, the former Minister of Sports, Herman Longsworth has moved on and so has the former National Sports Director. The new guard seems determined to clean out the cobwebs. Already this week, we’ve seen brand new Director Ritchel Dominguez working to repair some serious neglect at the MCC Grounds. Today, Dominguez handed over seven motorcycles to district sports coordinators. We are told that Dominguez organized the sale of some derelict department vehicles and scraped together cash to pay for the cycles which will serve an important need.

“While doing my tour I met and I thought about driving back from each one of your areas and knew that you had great difficulties in transportation. I sat and thought about it and spoke about it to a few people and came up with this idea that we could do something for our staff. Let’s do it for them, because you are the front line people.”

“It’s important for our sports coordinators countrywide. In each district we have Sports Coordinators who have responsibility for the sporting facilities. Also they have responsibility to run certain programs for us when it comes to sports such as dealing with the Primary Schools sports tournament that is going on now…also there to coordinate and begin to plan sporting programs for the districts. A cycle is important for them because it gives them a little bit of mobility to move around. Our greatest resources here are our sports coordinators in the district. We need to give them our support. We need to let them get that feeling that things are going to be better. I do believe that empowering them with these cycles is going to do that and much more.”

Today, the Council also handed out two laptop computers with printers to district sports coordinators.
