First Sound Clash Kicks Off This Weekend
You’ve heard about the Forty-five shootout and now a battle of international disc jockeys will take place for the first time in Belize. It’s all happening this weekend at the Pick Wick Club when the four-time Grammy award winning Black Chiney from Jamaica will take on Dynamq from Africa. The promoter dropped by today to take about this first of a kind international event in Belize.
Jobie Yorke, C.E.O., Global Promotions
“It’s history to be having this first time ever sound clash and it is history to have a sound system all the way from Africa coming and clash against big, bad, mighty Black Chiney. Fair enough as he said four Grammys. You don’t accomplish that just like that. Belize is gonna get a history and a different vibe. It is not a dance thing—yeah you dance if you like the tune weh the sound system play—but it is a good look for Belize. Just like Bobby said, people are going to be watching worldwide.”
Bobby Chin, Black Chiney
“You’re going with a lot of knowledge of reggae music because Belizeans love dancehall, but it is kinda weird the history. I’m Jamaican; I was raised in Jamaica and I never knew who Lucky Dube was until I came to Belize. So Belize knows Lucky Dube, but they wouldn’t know a Marcia Griffiths. So it is going to tie in everything. After the dance everybody will have a better knowledge of where dancehall really came from.”
Duane Moody
“So edutainment?”
Bobby Chin
“Yeah…education musically. At the same time we gwen beat the African badly.”
