Annual B.D.F. Day Will Be Bigger and Better This Year
This Saturday at Price Barracks in Ladyville, the Belize Defense Force will host its annual B.D.F. Day in celebration of its thirty-eighth anniversary. The event allows for the public, as well as the families of the officers, to get an insight into the life of a soldier. Activities for the entire family, as well as military displays and more, will be staged from nine a.m. through to six p.m. The day culminates with the traditional dance that will feature entertainment from Sweet Pain Band from the south and Evolution Sounds. Captain Andrew August stopped by News Five’s today and told us more about the fun-filled event.
Captain Andrew August, Jungle Unit Commander, B.D.F.
“We are celebrating our thirty-eighth year anniversary so we have a full day of events both for the children and adults—both for the children and adults. Lot of games, food and drinks for purchase and we’ll also have military displays that the public usually enjoys. It is very important for us; the monies generated from the event will go toward the welfare fund to provide our soldiers with scholarships. It also gives us an opportunity to bring our families and let them see what we do. So we enjoy it.”

“So it is more about providing information to the public on those who attend?”
Captain Andrew August
“That’s a roger; we also have our jungle lane, which is our survival lane that demonstrates how our soldiers will use the resources from the jungle effectively to survive. And also the military displays to show them the tactics that we use and the different formations we use in battles.”

“It’s an all day event; talk to us about when it starts, the cost to get in, other details.”
Captain Andrew August
“It starts at nine a.m. So it’s a dollar to enter and we have games and stuff for the kids and at eighteen hundred hours, or six p.m., our dance starts and we will have Sweet Pain Band along with Evolution Sounds throughout the day for entertainment. Everyone, everyone should come out and again, it will be a fun and secure event and it’s for a good cause. Like I said, all the monies generated will go towards scholarships for our soldiers. So please come out and come and enjoy a fun and secure time on our camp.”
