Sentencing Deferred in Anderson Murder Trial

After more than a week, the murder case of Belize City Daniel Anderson, accused with the 2011 murder of Joyce Mitchell came to an end. Mitchell was gunned down in a hail of bullets sprayed in her direction but she was not the intended target. The ruling has been deferred in the trial by judge without jury. Anderson is the suspect who rode by on a bicycle on June seventeenth 2011 and fired at least four shots in Mitchell’s direction. She was sitting in the trunk of a relative’s vehicle which was parked in front of their home. But in the trial, only one of the prosecution’s two main witnesses testified. Mitchell’s mother Jennifer Staine gave testimony while her sister, Julia Mitchell recanted her 2011 statement which was still admitted into evidence by Justice Adolph Lucas. Staine told the police after the incident that she knew her daughter’s killer.  In his defence, Anderson who was represented by Attorney Simeon Sampson gave a dock statement saying he was in Belmopan on the evening of the murder.  He called two alibi witnesses, his girlfriend Jeneen Jones and her friend, Desiree Leslie.  But Anderson will have to spend more time behind bars before he learns his fate.
