E.U. delays cut in sugar prices
In a bit of brighter news for Belmopan, the European Union has decided to delay the introduction of drastically reduced prices for Belizean sugar. The decision this week by the EU Ministers of Agriculture to indefinitely postpone implementation of the thrity-seven percent cut from June 2005 will help Belize and other ACP producers make the transition to new WTO compliant marketing arrangements. African, Caribbean and Pacific states, including Belize, lobbied hard for the slower paced approach to change.
