Travel visa free throughout Mexico
Travel to Mexico by Belizeans is getting easier and an announcement from the government of that neighbouring country is bound to make it an even more common practice. So if you’re one of those that makes frequent pilgrimages across the border, start planning your next trip because as of today Belizeans no longer require a visa to enter Mexican territory or to travel throughout that country. Press Officer for the Mexican embassy, Marcelino Miranda, told us just how easy it is to get to the other side of the border and how this decision will benefit both Mexico and Belize.

“They just need a Belizean passport—a valid passport—go to the border and they just need to fill out an immigration form and immigration officer would fix the length of the stay. Normally it’s six months but it’s up to the immigration officer to determine the length of the stay in Mexico. This is part of the efforts the of Mexico to become closer to Belize, to strengthen the relationship and also to honour an agreement with Belize in which Belize and Mexico agreed to eliminate visas for their nationals and this is also an effort by both countries to get a border more secure but in which Mexico can facilitate the movement of people from Belize into Mexico. Also for Belizeans who go to the US and then they come back through Mexico, also they don’t need a visa, they don’t need to go to any consulate in the US and this is good news for the relationship. Now Belize and Mexico are becoming closer. This is accompanied by other measures. This is part of a whole policy in which we want to strengthen the relations in terms of trade, in terms of tourism, in terms of education, technical and scientific operations. So for that we needed to lift the visa in order to facilitate the crossings of Belizeans.”
Mexican Ambassador to Belize, Luis Manuel Lopez Moreno has been working towards eliminating the visa requirements for Belizeans travelling to Mexico since he took office in 2007.
