Occupants rescued, arson suspected
Two women were rescued from a burning house early this morning by a policeman. Around three A.M., police received reports of a fire at this small wooden house behind the Zoe Ministries World Outreach Centre on Vernon Street. Police Constable Lazaro Catch, who was working at the Mayflower police booth, was dispatched to the scene and upon arrival heard the women’s cry for help. Quick action by PC Catch in dousing the flames, brought the situation under control and rescued Doris Zapata and Lillian Lopez, who were locked inside the building. Police believe that the fire was deliberately set and are investigating this disturbing incident.
