Basketball, cycling, softball dominate weekend sports

James Adderley, Reporting

Good evening, I?m James Adderley with yet another fresh dish of Sports Monday. The Annual Central Division Secondary School Basketball season shines in full effect at the Civic Centre so we visited the scene Friday night where the bitter rivalry between St. Michael?s College and Wesley College was about to turn another page.

In the tip off its Robert Cayetano and Carl McGregory in a bid for the ball, but Wesley comes away with possession and we are underway.

If Nelson Dillitt wanted three points here, he?ll first have to settle for an ugly assist to Dwight Brown who goes glass for two.

However, it?s Wesley College opting for the early lead as Carl McGregory banks the pill move. And they complete a seven-zip run when McGregory strikes for this long-range deuce.

Nevertheless, here comes St. Michael?s Densmore Edwards who finds, Troy Chavarria who finds nothing but net from the point range.

This time downcourt Edwards finds Dwight Brown in heavy traffic for the second tie in first half play.

But when you?re hot you?re hot and McGregory certainly is on fire as he gives Wesley two more points.

Make no doubt about it though, Densmore Edwards is keeping up and here he comes up with the steal and with the bucket. And here he is striking for two more of his game high twenty-six points with this quick release.

But at the half S.M.C. is still down by one point.

In second half, this move by Gensham Rodriguez runs the Wesley lead to seven points; Rodriguez would finish with twelve points.

Edwards answers downcourt with this big time three point strike.

And then he beats everyone to this quarterback throw which he converts to two S.M.C. points and we?re tied at thirty-three points apiece.

Nevertheless, here comes Troy Chavarria and he would finish with a double digit twelve points for St. Michaels.

Jason Augustine finds himself with space with time so he knocks Penn the uncontested jumper.

However, this three point shot by Nelson Dillett might have provided the nail in the Wesley coffin.

And then Edwards is off on running off this Wesley missed shot to get an easy deuce.

St. Michaels College goes onto stun Wesley fifty-four to forty-six in regulation.

Meanwhile folks, that win gave St. Michaels a sweep over Wesley because on the female under guard, they also picked up the W.

At the half, the St. Michaels girls are up by three points and right out of intermission Diane Grant picks up her own missed shot to execute the put back.

The Wesley reply comes Ashanti Torres who scored half of Wesley?s total. She gets two of her team high nine points right here.

However, Wesley had no answers for Roguel Williams who would lead her team with the game high ten points.

Here she is getting another easy two points.

St. Michaels goes on to post the twenty-seven to eighteen victory in regulation.

Turning to the cycling scene, the Lake Independence Remembrance Day Cycling Classic was staged yesterday on the Burrel Boom Circuit in a presentation by Molt Es Pinosa. And we do like to show you the start of these non-elite races because many are called but few are chosen and well they?re off.

Through the Village of Burrel Boom it?s a lead pack of five.

Coming through Hattieville this is rider on the pace, but can you believe he?s riding with slippers on his feet in this contest.

Around mile seven it?s Sabaldo Cowo and Charles Heusner trying to establish dominance as the tape gets closer.

However, Charlie ‘Whiteman’ Heusner simply can?t hold on to his man and Sabido Cowo wins uncontested, forget the accompanying rider is not in the picture.

And here?s Charlie settling for second and we told you ‘Whiteman’ not to drink that Guinness.

Devin Reltello cruises in for third place, my man Troy Burgess in his first venture since coming out of retirement pulls up fourth.

While Linsford Smith rounds out the top five.

Turning to the football scene, here are the results of the ‘A’ League as presented by the F.F.B. over the weekend:

Turning to softball scene, the Inter Office competition at Roger?s Stadium found the Belize City Council and Truckers in action yesterday. Truckers easily disciplined the City Council fourteen to four forcing the umpire to apply the mercy.

In the other match-up Customs also forced the money rule after bashing B.T.L. fifteen to five.

That?s it for now folks. We want to say thanks to our cameraman for the great work over the weekend. Jah over all, I?m James Adderley.
