National Security Officials Visit F.O.B. Site at Mouth of Sarstoon

This morning, Minister of National Security John Saldivar, with an entourage including Minister of State Frank Mena and representatives from the Ministry, Police and Belize Defence Force, visited the site of the Forward Operating Base at the mouth of the Sarstoon. The media was not invited on the trip which we are told was planned to scrutinize the progress of the base which is being built by elements of the B.D.F. The Government Press Office was present, though, and issued a release this evening stating that the base, “though modest in its beginnings, will establish a much needed presence and will serve to combat illicit activities such as drug, contraband and human trafficking, and weapons trading, which threaten Belize’s national security.”
