Humane society holds fundraiser
Love animals? Love baseball? On Thursday night, the two will collide as an honest to goodness signed Willie Mays baseball, complete with a certificate of authencity will go to the highest bidder and guess what, the money will go to the dogs. The baseball is just one item to be auctioned as part of fundraising activities held by the Belize Humane Society under the theme, Protek Fu Wee Patlika! According to organizers, auctioneer Kevin Castillo will sell a round trip ticket to Houston, overnight stays at local resorts and delicious meals in restaurants around the country.
Darlene Gentle, Vice President, Belize Humane Society
?We have a raffle, a live auction and a silent auction going on. We have more than a one hundred items to auction, but some of those items we have grouped together in packages. So we basically have ten items to raffle, forty live auction items and twenty-eight silent auction items.?
?We recently acquired a piece of property at four miles on the Western Highway and that?s what the auction is for, we?ll be putting our office there because since we got started in 1996, we don?t have an office. We have a telephone line that?s actually at my house, but once we are finished with the fundraising, we are going to put that facility there at four miles on the Western Highway.?
There is a twenty-five dollar cover charge which entitles guests to snacks and drinks. The event starts at seven pm at the Chateau Caribbean. All monies raised will go into a fund to build Belize’s first animal shelter.
