Palacio and Raptors off to good start
With the action just getting started in U.S. professional basketball, it?s not too early to check in with Belize’s very own NBA representative, Milt Palacio. And the news is pretty good. His team, the Toronto Raptors, is off to its best start ever with a record of three wins and no losses, including a victory on Friday over the world champion Detroit Pistons. Palacio’s stats are not bad considering his playing time of between twelve and sixteen minutes per game. The backup point guard has scored nine points in each of his last two outings behind starter Skip Alston. The Raptors may face some tougher times, however, as they move from the friendly confines of the Air Canada Centre to begin a long road trip during which they will play fourteen of their next eighteen games in enemy territory. Palacio is now in his sixth year as an NBA journeyman, having played for Vancouver, Boston, Phoenix, and Cleveland. He is now in the second year of a two year one point seven million US dollar contract with Toronto. But before you think about hitting Milt up for a loan, remember there’s his agent to pay, union dues and don’t even ask about those Canadian income taxes.
