Belmopan robbery suspects charged

Meanwhile, Belmopan police have arrested and charged several residents of Dangriga who are believed to be the perpetrators of a number of burglaries in the capital city. Twenty-two year old Ian Carr, twenty-eight year old Abraham Ponce and twenty-eight year old Eaton Carr have been charged with burglary and handling stolen property while twenty-five year old, Louise Palacio and twenty-year-old Ethel Palacio are charged with handling stolen property. According to the cops, the accused are responsible for burglaries that occurred at the Small Farmers Bank on November fourth, Minister Godfrey Smith’s residence on September twenty-fifth and Victor Perdomo’s home on October ninth. But police say that additional charges may be filed in the future as their investigation into other crimes in the area continues. All five accused appeared in Belmopan’s Magistrate’s court today. We understand Abraham Ponce pled guilty to two counts of burglary and was sentenced to seven years for each count to be served concurrently. The Carrs pled not guilty to burglary and were ordered remanded to Hattieville prison. Their prison stay has been postponed, however, as all five were transported to Dangriga this evening to appear in the Magistrate’s Court where they will answer to the charges of handling stolen property, as the goods recovered from the crimes were found in that municipality.
