DPP beefs up staff

An announcement from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions indicates that new appointments have brought that important part of our justice system up to full strength. New members of staff include Crown Counsels Kamar Henry and Anthony Sylvestre Jr. Both are graduates of U.W.I. and joined the DPP’s staff on June first and July first respectively. New senior crown counsels are Cheryl-Lynn Branker-Taitt and Marjorie Moyston. Moyston was promoted internally while Branker-Taitt moves over from the Attorney General’s Office. Her appointment is effective from October eighteenth. According to DPP Kirk Anderson, the office, which includes two senior crown counsels and four-crown counsels, is now fully staffed.

In related news, the DPP’s office and other agencies will be receiving some much needed training, courtesy of the United States Department of Justice. The seminar on the investigation and prosecution of narcotics and money laundering cases runs Tuesday through Friday at the Radisson Fort George Hotel. Lecturers include a pair of assistant U.S. attorneys, a special agent from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service and a detective from the Washington, D.C. police department. In addition to prosecutors, participants will be drawn from the Police Department, Financial Intelligence Unit, Airport Concession Company and Belize Ports Limited.
