Maskall squabble not over yet
The less said about this next story, the better. Suffice to say that just when you thought it was safe to enter the community centre at Maskall…yeah, you guessed it: it ain’t over yet. News 5’s Patrick Jones has the latest.

To quote an old saying, the more things change in Maskall, the more they stay the same. At a meeting on Sunday evening, embattled chairman of the village council Selvyn Graham, with support from the Ministry of Local Government, says he was able to court his colleagues over to his side.
Selvyn Graham, Chairman, Maskall
?All six officers voted in favour of me. They voted that Mr. Castro should write a letter to the village council for the use of the centre or he cannot use the centre.?
But Graham had hardly uttered those words, when the chairman of BRITE, Edmund Castro, showed up at our studios, armed with a counter move.
Edmund Castro, Chairman, BRITE
?Well basically happened yesterday, the chairman along with the public servant from the ministry of local government went up to Maskall and basically coerced the village council members stating that its only Maskall that the chairman of BRITE did not submit a letter to use the community centre.?
?And so hence based on those false information the council members in Maskall went along with–well since they have sent letter to those other chairman, then maybe we should ask Mr Castro, the chairman of BRITE, to submit a letter to the village council in Maskall. So based on those false premises they had agreed. But when the truth was learnt of their misbehaviour, the six council members have signed a letter requesting that the centre in Maskall be used for the next three or four days to finish the tour guide training programme in Maskall.?
Castro says the twenty-five prospective tour guides were permitted by the councillors to use the community centre this afternoon, and will use the facility for the remainder of the week when the formal part of the programme ends. And while Chairman Graham believes that the dispute has been settled, he was obviously not aware of the apparent reversal of opinion.
Selvyn Graham
?The dispute has been settle, everything is back to normal. And I must say that my councillors they accepted that they didn?t=t understand some of the village council rules, and the asked for training. And we will soon have a training with all the village council officers so that they can understand certain parts of the village council act. And I must say that they acted in good faith because some people have denied, because they stated that they have a meeting before and they have minutes. But in that meeting all six voted that they had to give a letter for the centre.?
Patrick Jones
?Hearing you talk I take it then it that you have no intention of writing a letter to the chairman of Maskall village council??
Edmund Castro
?I think if I write a letter to the Maskall village council, then this will be the first letter that I would have to write for the use of a community centre.?
?Well it?s not going behind his back. They just learned the truth. And if the person from the local government, Ms Plunkett, if she had a letter from the chairman of Bermudian Landing stating that Castro and the chairman of BRITE had sent to the chairman of Bermudian Landing, and a letter showing that BRITE organisation and also sent a letter to the chairman of Sandhill. Then Ms Plunkett, all she has to do is rebut what I am telling you today by present that letter to the other six members of the village council by showing the facts. If she could present that letter, then it would seem that Castro is a liar.?
But those letters look like they will be hard to present as evidence in this war, since in one instance the Sand Hill Chairman, as Ervin Milligan says no such correspondence crossed his desk.
Ervin Milligan, Chairman, Sand Hill
?I?m surprised that someone would use my name in such lying because I am someone that is prone to positiveness. And when the chairman of BRITE approached me telling me of their programme and wanting to use the centre for my villagers, I said that is very positive and I know that this will really uplift he young people of sand hill. So I did not request a letter. Something of that great capacity does not render for me to say well bring a letter.?
