Suspects detained in other crimes

Meanwhile in Belmopan three men have been detained for last week’s burglary of the Small Farmers and Business Bank. Close to three thousand five hundred dollars in cash and cheques, plus a gun and other items were stolen sometime between the night of November third and the following morning. Everything but the money has now been recovered and three residents of Dangriga are in custody pending charges.

The same goes of a twenty-nine year old man from the Orange Walk District who is accused of rape. A twenty-four year old woman has told police that while walking down the San Lorenzo Road she was approached by the suspect who offered her a ride on his bicycle. When she refused, he pulled her by the hair and forced her to ride up the road with him. He soon took her off the bike, punched her in the face and forced her to engage in sex. Nearby residents were alerted by her screams and were able subdue the suspect when he attempted to escape. He is being held pending charges at the Orange Walk police station.
