Alliance Against Aids burgled…again
In crime news there was an overnight burglary in Belize City…and while that is hardly an unusual occurrence, the fact that this particular venue has been hit five times has the victim concerned. News 5’s Jacqueline Woods has more.
Jacqueline Woods, Reporting
Belize City police still have no leads into who broke into the offices of the Alliance Against Aids sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday morning. The thief or thieves broke into the building by kicking down the back door. Authorities say because they suspect the crime occurred during the heavy rain, thunder and lightning they do not believe any of the neighbours heard the noise.
Rodel Beltran Perera, Executive Director, AAA
?One of our VCRs is missing. What else is missing? We have to go trough it as soon as the cops are finished with the photographing everything. We do know that there is some money that is missing. We don?t know what the quantity is. We know that there is also some foreign currency missing. So really we do not know at this time.?
It is not sure what evidence the police may have managed to collect from the crime scene, but the burglar certainly left the place in a mess. The culprits not only stole items, but appeared to have enjoyed a hearty meal with whatever they could find in the refrigerator. AAA?s Executive Director Rodel Beltran Perera says while they have their suspicions they cannot say for sure who committed the crime.

?Because AAA deals with the public do you suspect it may be somebody the organisation was trying to help that broke in??
Beltran Perera
?That could be true that there is somebody we could have turn back because of drug addiction of again just taking advantages of our services. We have a number of those kinds of persons that could be HIV negative who come to us saying that they are. Then we find out that they are on drugs. It could be, but we don?t know. That is one of our suspicions.?
It is not the first time that AAA has been burglarized. In fact, it is the fifth time that the organisation has been affected. Perera says they just do not have the resources to improve security, but would welcome any assistance from those in the business.
Rodel Beltran Perera
?We are trying to help people here and people are just making it even harder for us to help people. So if an insurance company comes forward or a security company, we would be more than happy to accept their help and we?ll see how we can work jointly with them.?
