Dangriga Taxi-man Shot and Left for Dead

Sgt. Wilfredo Ferrufino

A cab driver from Dangriga remains hospitalized at the KHMH tonight after being shot and left for dead along the Southern Highway on Thursday.  Darrel Lory, a well-known taxi man, was attacked by an unnamed assailant as he drove his vehicle along the stretch of road.  It is unclear what precipitated the near fatal incident and when police were summoned to the Southern Regional Hospital they found him in a critical condition.  They would then be called out to the scene of the shooting where a green taxi belonging to the injured driver was also observed with several bullet holes.  According to Sergeant Wilfredo Ferrufino, the lead investigator in the case, a motive for the shooting has not been ascertained.

Sgt. Wilfredo Ferrufino, Head CIB, Dangriga Police

“Sometime around 4:50 p.m. yesterday evening as well, Thursday, police received information that there was a taxi man lying on the road.  They had transported a taxi man who was lying on the road with apparent gunshot wounds.  As a result, police visited the Southern Regional Hospital and there they confirmed that one Darrel Lory was there suffering from gunshot wounds.  He was treated, stabilized at the Southern Regional Hospital and from there transported to the KHMH.  We know that he is in a critical but stable condition at the KHMH.  Police responded to, it would be half mile on the Southern Highway and there they located the vehicle of Mr. Lory, a green taxi in an orchard and it had what appeared to be a gunshot on the vehicle.”

“Was this a case of robbery?  Was he singled out for some other incident in the past or what have you?”

Wilfredo Ferrufino

“At this point we don’t have any motive, the investigation is pretty young.  We are pressing on the investigation but we have nothing, nothing confirmed at this time.”

On Sunday, fifty-two-year-old Harrison Bowers, a resident of Silk Grass Village was stabbed multiple times to the hands, chest and abdomen.  He was rushed to the Southern Regional Hospital where he is listed in critical condition. That incident transpired sometime around nine-thirty p.m. on Sunday night and police have since detained three persons from that community.
