Accused Cop Shooter Jamal Jackson Arraigned in Court

Thirty-one-year old Jamal Jackson, one of two suspects in an attempted robbery of a Nova Scotia Bank night deposit, made two trips to the court today. This morning he was in the court room of the Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith for charges of Kept Firearm and Ammunition without a License. When Jackson, a resident of Supal Street, Belize City pleaded not guilty, the Chief Magistrate told him that the evidence against him seems to point to an open and shut case. But Jackson maintained his not guilty plea.  His bail application is expected to be heard as early as this Friday.  On Monday night police found Jackson in possession of a nine millimetre pistol and ammunition. This is after he and another suspect fled Albert Street where they lay-waited a person making a night deposit. But before they could commit the crime, a traffic mobile drove by on Albert Street. The duo got jumpy and opened shots at the police mobile and the police responded. Jackson was pursued and arrested. Late this afternoon, Jackson was taken back to court to be arraigned for attempted murder, attempted robbery, handling stolen goods in respect of the firearm, but due to the unavailability of a magistrate, he was remanded to prison. He is no stranger to the law; recently he walked from a murder charge against him for a Nigerian Security Guard who was violently attacked, gagged and stabbed on the compound of the Belize Best Western Biltmore Plaza. A group of men stormed the hotel compound to rob them but the robbery was foiled.  Court records also show that Jackson was convicted of drug trafficking and fined ten thousand dollars but he never met payment.  Jackson is due back in court on June seventh, 2016.
