Placencia tourist recovers stolen items

Still in the south, Placencia police have secured another conviction, this one a Belize City man charged for the crimes of burglary and handling stolen goods. Thirty-one year old Ian Staine was charged after a report made by an American national that his room at a resort in the village was burglarized. Fifty-year-old Hae Sun Jung told police that sometime between five and seven on Tuesday evening someone broke into her room and stole an assortment of personal items including her U.S. passport. Police investigations led to the recovery of most of the items and Staine’s arrest. When he appeared in Dangriga Magistrate’s court today, he was convicted of both charges and sentenced to a year in jail.
