Bz. City police arrest suspected arsonist

Belize City police are still trying to find out why a young man tried to burn down a house on the Southside of the city early Wednesday morning. According to police, Justo Suazo, who lives on Jane Usher Boulevard was at home around three that morning when he started to smell gasoline. Suazo told police he went outside to see if anything was burning and that is when he saw a young man holding a bottle in his hand and throwing a liquid on the left side of his house. Suazo says he then noticed the same person strike a match in an effort to set his house on fire. That’s when the home owner shouted at the man, who then dropped the bottle and the matches and took off towards Central American Boulevard. Police later recovered the box of matches and a bottle containing gasoline. Authorities say based on their investigation they have arrested nineteen-year-old Vincente Rieno and charged him with the crime of attempted arson. Police are still trying to determine the motive behind this incident.
