Two bronze medals for Belizean Bodybuilders
Belizean body builders continue to represent the jewel in impressive fashion at international events…the latest showing coming at the Pan American Body Building and Fitness Championships. A contingent of six athletes, including current Miss Fitness Jolie Pollard, travelled to Guatemala City this past weekend to pose down with competitors from Mexico, Central and South America. While our entrants did not earn the coveted gold, Dillon Jones took bronze in the Masters category, returning to the country with enough metal to set off the alarms at the airport.
Dillon Jones, Pan Am Games Bronze Medallist
?To be honest, that was the highest level that I have ever been and it was tremendous. And as far as competitive wise the best that I have seen.?
Patrick Jones
?Now you came back with a medal all be it not the top medal but you still medalled in the competition. What does it mean for you as an athlete and for Belize??
Dillon Jones
?Well I tell you that we have stepped it up a notch and I think that Belize is holding its own on the international scene as far as body building is concerned. Central America I think that we are dominating in Central America. Now if we can dominate in the Caribbean and at the Pan American and I.B.O. championships, then I believe that Belize is well on the way to international body building.?
Patrick Jones
?Is there anything special that you have to do to prepare for these matches??
Dillon Jones
?Of course. People look at you everyday and they think you don?t go through a lot. But body building is discipline. And of course where financing is concerned, you have to ensure that you have financing to follow through with your programme. Because most athletes in Belize go through a hard time soliciting or getting funds or sponsorship. But I tell you if you remain defiant with all the odds stacked against you, you can do it as we are doing right now.
Apart from Jones, the only other Belizean to medal in the competition was Roger Sutherland who won bronze in the welterweight division for men up to a hundred and sixty pounds.
