Latest art displayed at image factory
When you go through the doors of the Image Factory on North Front Street you’re never quite sure of what you’ll meet…except that it won’t be boring. Today I got a preview of the latest in a long line of art exhibitions at the Belize City gallery.
Gilvano Swasey, Curator, Image Factory
?The public has become very responsive because what we have done as a gallery is basically slowly introduce this type of art. We have been very conscious with the way of how we just put it up. It?s not just to create shock value as we would always want, but to create some kind of sensitivity to how art is moving.?
Jacqueline Woods, Reporting
Since 1995 the Image Factory has hosted dozens of shows, ranging from the familiar to the utterly abstract. The latest offering, Art Now Two, covers a wide territory to bring the public up to date on where Belizean art stands today.

?What new artists are doing? What new artists are there? What the old artists are doing and what new they are doing too in a sense. So it?s to see what drove us here at this point; if it?s international issues, if it?s local issues, or if it?s just the mind trying to find some space to express itself. So it?s a quick look of the creative process.?
?It?s no longer just paint and canvas. It?s now metal, wool, ceramic, a stone or anything that is found and turned into a new process or turned into an image of feeling and it makes you react to it.?
?So the main drive is to see how we are influenced from maybe things outside or things locally. It?s to see what is basically new and exciting happening in our minds as artists and as creative people.?
Art Now Two opens tonight at the Image Factory at seven. Members of the public, especially art students, are invited to view the display Mondays to Fridays from nine to five.
