New dept. store invites Belizeans to Chetumal
Several times over the past twenty years, major devaluations of the Mexican peso have sent Belizeans by the thousands across the border to shop in Chetumal. In recent years, as the peso recovered and a free zone opened on the Belize side of the border, that flow was reversed, with bargain hunting Yucatecans crossing the bridge in droves. But more recently the opening of an upscale mall and movie complex in Chet has once again drawn Belizeans back to Mexico…and next month the opening of one of that country’s most stylish department stores in the Quintana Roo capital promises to attract more. Today a director of the Liverpool chain, Laura Pasos, arrived in Belize to invite us to visit across the border.
Laura Pasos Olmedo, Executive Director, Liverpool, Chetumal
?Liverpool is a big chain; it?s a big company. It has one hundred and fifty years. We have several stores all over the country of Mexico. In total, we have fifty-two store and the one we are about to open is store number fifty-three in Chetumal City. It?s a big department store and we have almost what you are looking for in this store.?
?One of the main things about Chetumal City is that it has a border with Belize and that?s an opportunity. I think there is a need of stores like Liverpool that has many things to offer and that can make your life easier. I think it?s an opportunity for all the people who live close to Chetumal City.
Liverpool will open on November twenty-fifth.
