Two detained in brutal Cayo murder
A San Ignacio man met a violent death over the weekend but three days after the brutal act police have few details to report. Around four-thirty on Friday evening, police discovered the body of fifty-seven year old Gabriel Pinelo lying under his bed at his house on Eighteenth Street. It had a large wound to the back of the head. Authorities say it is still not clear what transpired inside the dead man’s house but a blood trail that leads from the hall to the bedroom suggests Pinelo may have been killed in another room and his body dragged and put under the bed. Police say they first became aware that something was wrong at the residence after Pinelo’s wife reported to them that their daughter told her she had noticed the door to their house was open. The family decided to go first to the police before entering and after authorities went inside they came upon the gruesome scene. Police would not say what they believe was the motive, when they believe the incident occurred or how long they believe Pinelo was dead, but they have detained two men pending further investigations. Recovered from the scene was an aluminium baseball bat that police believe is the murder weapon.
