A High School Pageant for a Feeding Program

In the next few minutes, seven students of the Anglican Cathedral College will be vying for the title of Miss ACC. The pageant, which has been revamped, is being held to raise funds for a feeding program at the institution. Over the past four weeks, the delegates from third and fourth form classes have been working around the clock to compete in areas of costume, talent, poise, eloquence and grace. News Five stopped by the high school as the girls were officially introduced to the student body.

Shawna Avilez, Teacher, Anglican Cathedral College

“This pageant is one that was held actually about five or six years ago and so this one is relatively new to the students who are here now. The students are all excited and they are looking forward to having a wonderful night. The activity is just to fundraise for our school so that we can assist with our feeding program.”

“Well since it was six years ago, we decided to go back and try the pageant once again.”

“Talk to us about who are the girls competing and the categories they will be judged in.”

Shawna Avilez

“There are a total of seven girls. They will be judged in sportswear, casual wear, costume, evening gown, question and answers; they actually have a section where they will be wearing a costume that represents a CARICOM country.”

Talk to us about that; the theme for this event.”

Shawna Avilez

“The theme for this event is glitz and glam but education is my number one fan. So is it all beauty? No; it also involves their intelligence.”

Tickets for the pageant are twenty dollars.
