Faber Asked if Past “Indiscretions” Will Come Back to Haunt Him

Patrick Faber

But what about his temper?  Faber is known for his sporadic outbursts, a trait that has rubbed quite a few people the wrong way.  According to the leadership candidate, it’s a character flaw he is certainly working on.

Patrick Faber, Candidate, U.D.P. Deputy Party Leader

“But what you need to realize Mister Vasquez is that we are in a transition mode. I will not sue or put words in the Prime Minister’s mouth; I will use words that he has said himself. In fact at the time when I offered myself for the first time as deputy party leader, the Prime Minister was noted as saying that for particular reasons, he was noted as saying that for particular reasons, he did not supported my candidacy, but that he believes that I am suitable and fit to be the net leader of the United Democratic Party—you check the record; it’s there. You will also remember that in fact when it was that I received the viewer votes, not a loss, but I received fewer votes; that in his presentation at the last national convention—not the one held yesterday—at that convention, he said that there was no doubt in his mind that I will one day be the leader of the United Democratic Party. Well my friend, all will tell you that they know this to be his mind; the Prime Minister for very obvious reasons on this occasion has indicated that he would not interfere in the campaign on either side and you now that that was the only obstacle that beat me the last time. And so the concern has got to be made by Minister Saldivar that without the Prime Minister’s support, it is going to be extremely difficult to beat my candidacy. That is what needs to be the concern.”

“You are known for your hotheadedness, you are known for equanimity on occasions such as these, but you are also known for your ill-temperedness on other occasions. Are you concerned that your personal indiscretions may affect your public aspirations?”

Patrick Faber

“As I’ve said Jules, I will not shy away and I will not pretend that I am a perfect individual. You know that in fact people who are passionate are often very hasty—if you will—that is a lesson that I have learnt in the time that I have developed as a leader. I believe that as I go forward that maturity will continue to come—not that it is not at a level now where I believe I am fit to be the deputy leader and the deputy prime minister of this country. I will continue to work on the areas though that I believe are considered to be shortcomings; that people who love me and guide me. I am guided by people; guided by those who, of course, want to see the best for me as an individual, but want to see the best for the party and this country.”

The other contender, John Saldivar, has not officially launched his campaign, but his interests as party leader are well known.
