Beating victim discharged from KHMH
While News 5 was at the Karl Heusner Memorial hospital this morning, our crew decided to check in on thirteen-year-old Stanwell Arana. The boy, who was severely beaten and left to die almost two weeks ago, was being tended by his fifteen-year-old sister. Conscious but tired, he managed to smile with his visitors and eat a hearty lunch of white rice and meatballs. We understand that Arana regained consciousness on Monday and today, we were informed that he was getting ready to go home. It was not explained why Arana was released only three days after opening his eyes or why the youngster was discharged to two minors: his fifteen year old sister and a seventeen year old believed to be a cousin or neighbour. But the story gets even more interesting. We have been reliably informed that not even the Human Services Department, who are in charge of the case, knew that Arana was being sent home. We understand the department, has since sent a social worker to the boy’s home to see if it would be in the child’s best interest to remain there. Today when News 5 checked with Police we were informed that no arrest has yet have been made in Arana’s case, but they strongly believe that a suspect now in custody on other charges is the man they are looking for.
