Minor Killed in Independence Over a Horse

Over the weekend, a street figure was killed in Ladyville. There was another murder, which occurred on Sunday in southern Belize for which an eighteen year old was arraigned today. The victim is fifteen year old David Chinchilla from Independence. Elston Arzu is accused of stabbing Chinchilla once to the chest around eight on Sunday night after the minor refused to give him access to a horse. The minor was rushed to the Independence Polyclinic but died on arrival. Arzu was quickly detained and police today charged him with murder.

“Police visited the clinic where upon arrival; they saw the motionless body of a Hispanic male person wearing a yellow t-shirt and a reed short pants lying in a face up position inside the pan of a white pickup. We learned the person’s name to be David Chinchilla, fifteen years old Belizean student of said village. And police saw that the person had what appeared to be a stab wound to the center of his chest below his throat. Investigation is that Chinchilla was sitting outside of the yard along with his young brother and a friend, when he was approached by one Elston Shemar Arzu, eighteen year old Belizean student of Independence Village. Arzu apparently asked to borrow a horse at the front of the yard and when Chinchilla told him that the horse was eating and not to bother with the horse, that’s when Arzu walked behind Chinchilla who was sitting on the ground sending some text messages—put his left hand around Chinchilla’s neck and with his right hand stabbed Chinchilla to the front part of his chest with a knife that he had at the time. Police investigation was carried out and Shelton Arzu was detained by police for questioning. Statements from witnesses were recorded, the murder weapon was found a few feet away from where the stabbing happened and this morning Elston Shemar Arzu was arrested and charged for the crime of murder.”
