Robbers hit depositor at N. Hwy. bank
Police are tonight looking for two people who held up an employee of Grace Kennedy this evening. According to financial controller Bernard Pickwood, the company’s messenger was on his way to deposit the proceeds of the day’s sales at the nearby branch of the Bank of Nova Scotia on the Northern Highway. But before the messenger could complete the transaction, a van drove up and its two occupants wrestled away the deposit bag, fired a couple of shots and sped off. Witnesses say a police vehicle, which was nearby, pursued the fleeing robbers to an area behind the Belize Water Services compound on Central American Boulevard, but so far, only the abandoned van has been found. Pickwood says that the amount of money stolen has not yet been determined. The messenger, who has been with Grace Kennedy for over ten years, was not hurt in the incident.
