John Saldivar Reveals Plans for National Security Ministry

In terms of the specifics as related to the Ministry of National Security, Belmopan Area Representative John Saldivar revealed that as it has every year, the budget for the departments under his portfolio will grow. Among other projects this year, Saldivar boasts that the Forward Operating Base will be completed in this fiscal year, thanks to the vision of his government.

“Out of last year’s budget Mister Speaker, we were able to grow the police department by a whopping and unprecedented three hundred and twenty new police officers. The B.D.F. we were able to grow by a hundred and sixty soldiers and the coastguard we were able to grow by ninety-four seamen. Last year Mister Speaker, we also completed dormitories in Hattieville, refurbish the Coastguard base; repair the barracks at Price Barracks, repair the barracks at Police Training Academy, repair the Pomona Police Station. From this budget Mister Speaker, we will add another hundred and sixty police officers to our ranks, another fifty coastguard to our ranks and another eighty B.D.F. to our ranks. In this fiscal year Mister Speaker, we will complete the forward operating base at Hunting Caye. We will commence the groundwork for the patrol base at northern Ambergris Caye. We will complete the multipurpose building within the Coastguard Headquarters Compound. We will support the construction of the joint forces bases at Consejo. We will commence construction of station Punta Gorda and we will commence construction of station Big Creek and we will acquire, Mister Speaker, for the first time in the history of this country, two hundred foot patrol boat craft valued at over ten point two million U.S. dollars.”
