Reginald Jex Challenge Cup continues in Sandhill
James Adderley, Reporting
Good evening I?m James Adderley with this Tuesday version of Sports Monday. With the highest level of Belizean Football play still in the off season, the focus remains on the Reginald Jex Challenge Cup inside Sandhill where the struggle to get into the big leagues continue.
As we look at the pre-game niceties, we must marvel and shout what could be better than Sandhill football in this kind of weather. So let?s check it out together.
It?s Carib International with the kick off this Sunday afternoon in Week IV of this first division football tournament.
However, it is Spanish Town Maskall with the first scoring chance, but Sanjay Pitts, the striker looks quite ineffective in a one on one clash with the goalkeeper.
Maskall?s reply comes from Kenyon Louis who fails to hit the target.
Meanwhile folks this play perfectly demonstrates the saying–when you come to shoot-shoot don?t dilly-dally.
So let?s check in with Sanjay Pitts who has another opportunity to put Spanish Town Maskall on the scoreboard first but he?ll have to go to finishing school.
Nevertheless, it?s Kenyon Louis with this left foot grass head burner that opens the scoreboard to give Carib International a 1-zip lead.
Say folks, here is a defensive lapse if we?ve ever seen one. So in comes Sanjay Pitts and we have a tied ballgame at the half.
A few minutes after intermission Spanish Town breaks the tie when number fifteen Garcia punches this header into the back of the net.
Make it a 3-1 ballgame when Sanjay Pitts strikes again with this left foot for the Maskall team.
Meanwhile folks you can call this a breakdown in communication between the keeper and his defence, but Kenyon Louis streaks in to make it a 3-2 ballgame with his second goal of the match.
And then like a blast from the past Bernard ?Dubu? Thomas raises this left foot home to force the 3-3 regulation tie.
So we go to game II featuring the Lucky Strike Eagles in action against Santana Untouchables who attack off the set piece here but fail to move the scoreboard.
Santana again looks dangerous with this run through but it only adds up to excitement.
The Untouchables almost touched scoreboard on this play but a massive defensive header gets them out of the box.
Folks, the only goal of second match come here in second half when Cedric Garbutt picks up the loose ball. He knows what to do with the pill; he gives the Eagles a 1-zip big W over the Untouchables.
In Game III on the schedule Pueblo Escondido and Maskall Hardcore rally to a one all stalemate.
Turning to the cycling news, Mateo Cruz won Santino?s fifty mile race through the Boom Circuit staged on Saturday with Marlon Castillo, Ernest Meighan, Barney Brown and Robert Mariano rounding out the top five in the order respectively. This Sunday, October seventeenth, brings up the Queen Jubilees Cycling Race sponsored by the Belmopan Cycle club. And of course, you know we are going to keep you posted.
In closing, we also want to say hello to our sister in town with her three daughters. Hey, have fun. That?s it for now. Jah over all, I?m James Adderley.
