An Exchange of Stolen Vehicles Between Belizean and Guatemalan Authorities
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs through Ambassador Said Badi Guerra has secured the return of a pick-up truck stolen earlier this year from Assistant Superintendent Selwyn Tillett. The vehicle was jacked in Benque Viejo del Carmen and promptly taken across the border on February fourteenth. The vehicle belongs to Tillett’s son-in-law and was found in an area known as Camalote near Melchor de Mencos days after the robbery. Now, the process for the return of vehicles would take up to six months, but this time, the negotiations lasted forty-three days for it to be driven back into Belize after it was handed over to the Belmopan police. The recovery of the pick-up truck was a part of a vehicle swap. A stolen van from Guatemala was handed over to its owner on the Guatemalan side.
