Min. of Human Dev. holds education forum
Their motto is: “Helping People to Help Themselves” but in an effort to introduce the services being offered by the Ministry of Human Development, and make the process easier, the Ministry has embarked on an ambitious public education campaign. The initiative is in the form of an Educational Forum on Social Services. Human Resources Development Coordinator Merilyn Young says everyone is invited to attend.
Merilyn Young, Human Resources Development Coordinator
?The directors and different departments that we work with will be telling people what are the services we provide through the various departments, what are the procedures to access those services and the collaborative effort that we can have along with the community and other NGO?s.?
Patrick Jones
?And these all fall under the heading of social services??
Merilyn Young
?All under the Ministry of Human Development. And we have within the ministry of human development, we have the department of human services, we have the community rehabilitation department whose responsibility is to work with the juvenile justice system. So as a result of that we will have the representative from the magistrate?s court to speak about that process and the procedures and the rights of young offenders, first time offenders. And we will also have our new director of the women?s department Miss Carol Fonseca, who will be talking about what the department is doing and what are some of the programs that they are doing. And to assist in that area will also be the magistrate of the family court Margaret Nicholas to talk about various procedures in reference to the family court as well.?
Patrick Jones
?Who are the people who should come to this forum??
Merilyn Young
?Everybody should come. And I say everybody because we all have a stake in the whole aspect of human development in our country. We have invited the churches, we have invited principals, students, w have invited NGO?s but if you are not sure what are the rights of the elderly, what are the right of women, what are the rights of men, what is the process if a child is being abused in your neighbourhood or in your school this forum will sensitize you as to what you need to do to get involved.?
The public forum takes place tonight at seven at the Young Women’s Christian Association building on St. Thomas Street.
