Police find van but no arrest in Tues. shooting

Police investigations also continue into Tuesday morning’s shooting and while police have found the van used in the incident, no arrests have been made. Additional details revealed to the media today indicate that just after ten that morning, a taxi van picked up three men on Orange Street and believing he was on a normal run, took them to Banak Street. There, the driver says he was told to stop to take on two more passengers standing on the side of the street. The taxi driver told the police that he was then instructed to go to Antelope Street extension, but just as the vehicle started to move off, the first three passengers began to struggle with the two he had just picked up. The violence escalated when a single shot rang out, hitting one of the men in the neck. The frightened driver was told to keep moving and when the vehicle got to Antelope Street, the seriously wounded man and his companion were thrown out while the gun man and his two accomplices took off running. But before they left, the robbers threatened the driver that if he told anyone what he had seen, they would come back for him. That is why it wasn’t until much later that the driver called in to police and the authorities were then able to interview him and inspect the scene of the crime. The van was held in police custody but was released to the owner this afternoon. The injured man, identified as Ernesto Granedos remains in a critical condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Police suspect that robbery was the motive behind the shooting as Granedos’s companion, Daniel Moreno, was carrying a large sum of money at the time, as he was on his way to the United States to buy a vehicle. Moreno told cops that he and Granedos were on their way to the airport when their vehicle broke down on Banak Street which is why they had decided to hail a taxi. If you have any information that might assist the police in this case, please call the nearest station or 9-2-2.
