Police questioning ends in chopping/shooting
A shooting in the Stann Creek District has left a police officer suffering from chop wounds and his assailant recovering from gunshots to the leg. Reports are that on Saturday night, a mobile police unit was travelling on Fadden Avenue in Independence Village, but the officers say when two men standing on the street saw them, they took off running. A chase ensued and the cops managed to nab one of the fleeing pedestrians. Authorities say while they were in the process of detaining the man, he hauled out a machete and started swinging. The sharp blade caught Police Constable Alejandro Coc, injuring his right hand. At this, his fellow officers ordered the machete man to cease and desist, but the cops say that the attacker tried to chop Coc again so they shot him in his left leg. Both men were rushed to the Southern Regional hospital and the attacker has since been identified as twenty-five year old Renato Logan. As in all shootings involving police officers, a full investigation of this incident has been ordered.
