Who is Boots Grooming to Take Over in Port Loyola?
Deputy Mayor Dean Samuels, is he preparing to succeed “Boots” Martinez in Port Loyola? While the incumbent area representative has announced his retirement from electoral politics at the end of this term, he is grooming the three-time city councilor for a seat in central government.
Anthony ‘Boots’ Martinez, Area Representative, Port Loyola
“I said that this is my last term running as area representatives for Port Loyola. That hasn’t changed and so at least to this point; that hasn’t changed. I have made up my mind and that’s it for me…at least to this point. I don’t see nothing that convinces me at this point to stay. I think I have done my time. Talking about thirty-five years in active politics; I am fifty-two years old, but people always ask the question why so young. But I’m at thirty-five years and that means I’ve been around active politics since seventeen years old participating, running, serving on committee. And so at some point in time, you have to give it up and I believe that the time has come for me to want to live a life.”
Isani Cayetano
“Maybe at this point the question will be farfetched, but it needs to be asked nonetheless. Have you looked at either grooming a successor or will you remain out of it and whoever…”
Anthony ‘Boots’ Martinez
“No, no, no, no, no, no. I have looked on several people to be successors. I have asked a couple people if they were interested. And so I definitely have in mind…and let me say this. At least at this point I have in mind Councilor Dean Samuels for this position. I am supporting him as of now to trying to be the next representative of Port Loyola.”
According to Martinez, he has dedicated thirty-five years of his life to partisan politics. In the 2015 general elections, Martinez won by a very small margin of seventy-seven votes.
