Faber Does the Math in Orange Walk, Will Gapi’s Support be a Factor?
While a majority of the area representatives and standard bearers have chosen their candidate, there is one wild card remaining. That person seems to be Orange Walk North Area Representative Gaspar Vega whose seat as Deputy Party Leader is being contested. Vega has not declared his support, but does it matter to Faber?
Patrick Faber, Candidate for Deputy Leader
“One of our colleagues has still not declared which side he would support but he is the only one as far as I know. But if we give him the benefit of the doubt on that one then those are only fifteen votes, sixteen votes I should say, against me. There are five hundred and ninety or ninety-two votes, there is some discrepancy but those are the numbers. And I am telling you that where I stand today, after this victory in terms of keeping the delegates, we have that majority quote easily and in fact if the convention were tomorrow Patrick Faber would be the new deputy party leader.”

“When it comes to Deputy Prime Minister Gaspar Vega, how important is it to you to get his support, if at all? I mean he says that he will still continue supporting the party to ensure a win.”
Patrick Faber
“Well let me say this, that I’ve tried to make an outreach to my colleague the Deputy Prime Minister until these conventions are completed and we have had very cordial relations, although when I did make the outreach to speak to him that did not materialize. I really have not counted on his support, and in fact when you look at the Orange Walk District where there are four seats, his seat and three others, the three other standard bearers and their committees are fully supporting Patrick Faber. So you can be the judge as to whether or not that supported is needed based on what I said there.”
